Two…Free…Unreleased Songs…For You…

Hey friends,

You can now download two free unreleased demos on my “solo” Bandcamp page. One song, “The Winter’s Chill” is a song I posted to stream a few days ago. It’s a Christmas song I wrote a couple of weeks ago. The other song, “Your Kingdom, Your Glory” is another demo that I co-wrote with my good friend Brian Wurzell a couple months ago. I’d like to officially release and record these someday on something/somewhere in the future. We’ll see! Until then, I just thought I’d put the demo versions up for free…for fun. So enjoy!

The other day I wrote this Christmas song called “The Winter’s Chill” and I thought I would share it… It’s just a crappy Garage Band demo, but it has a nice crappy demo vibe about it :) I wasn’t sure if I would ever properly record it since Christmas is so soon and I honestly might forget about it next year ha.

Hope you like it, its a simple number…

“The Winter’s Chill”

The winter’s chill
Such a bitter pill
These days I won’t forget

As Christmas nears
We fill our cheer
With empty promises

The only gift that keeps on giving
Is the love within our hearts

Trade in these toys
This useless noise
They only want to sell you joy

It never lasts
The time will pass
Standing in a heap of junk

The only gift that keeps on giving
Is a love that warms this room

The winter’s chill
Such a bitter pill
These day’s I won’t forget

This Christmas time
Don’t want the catchy rhymes
Just wanna be with You tonight

Cos’ the only gift that keeps on giving
Is Your redeeming love

I Have Been Kickstarted!

Thank you so much to everyone who pledged/pre-ordered my debut Spells record on Kickstarter! I raised $4,510! I am truly grateful for all the support and believing in my music. It will mean that much more to me once this record is finished knowing that instead of some label or investor, I had an organic following of people who helped get this project on its feet. I cannot thank you enough…

I’ll be posting regular updates on the recording process once we start getting into the swing of things. Right now, I’m wrapping up lyrics, structures, and re-demoing/tracking scratches. The plan is to begin in two weeks or so.

Like I’ve said, it will be a bit of a departure from anything I’ve done before. It’s challenging and a bit scary to reach into the unknown territories. But I know the final result will be something hopefully unique, honest, and something I hope will strike a chord with everyone.

Time to make a record!

Hey guys! First off, thank you again to everyone who has pre-ordered/backed this new project! I cannot wait to get started on recording the debut EP!

Secondly, I wanted to mention that there are 3 days left on my Kickstarter campaign! I’m now at $3,871 and need at least $4,500. I’m almost there! So help me spread the word and let’s reach the goal it would really help!

Lastly, as a little extra incentive to those who haven’t pre-ordered/backed AND as an extra thank you to those who have I recorded a little 3 song Christmas EP that everyone will get as soon as the campaign is over (and as soon as I collect everyone’s info to send it!). It’s a simple EP of 3 Christmas songs recorded with one room mic on acoustic/piano with my friend Kyle. Nothing crazy, no edits, and kept the mistakes. I hope you’ll enjoy it! Tis’ the season, right? (You can hear a little taste here on my blog of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”).

Anyways, we’re almost there! Let’s do this! Thanks again!

Until next time,

Trevor

Life is Good, Yeah? (insert accent)

Yes, I am now two months or so deep and I’m loving Nashville. All is good. New friends, new coffee shops, fine food establishments found, and new music is being made! I’m currently at the 12 day mark on my Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the recording. And I THINK its actually going to work! I’m currently at $2,949! I do have to reach $4,500, but I have hope! And I want to thank everyone who have backed Spells so far and for anyone who has even simply helped spread the word. It truly means a lot!

Anyways, I know I’ve been ranting quite a bit about the Kickstarter thing. Just bare with me. 12 more days and I’ll shut up I promise :)

As for the music itself, I’m wrapping up final structures and melodies and have begun to demo “full band” to start getting vibes/sounds/ideas/whatnot. It’s all starting to come together! The plan is to begin recording the REAL deal near the end of this month; if all funding goes well of course ;)

I do believe that’s all I have to say right now. Life is good!

Help Fund My Recording by Pre-Ordering the EP!

Hey everyone. For those of you who do not know, I am starting a new one-man-band project called SPELLS. It will be quite a departure from anything I’ve done musically/sonically in the past and its very refreshing and exciting!

I plan to record the debut EP this Winter and hope to release it early next year if funding permits. This is where YOU come in! I set up a profile on a site called Kickstarter where you will be able to help fund my recording process by pre-ordering the EP. In return you get exclusive pre-order packages that vary between how much you want to pledge. And anyone who pledges will get the EP as soon as its done and before it comes out to the public!

Here’s the deal with Kickstarter. I now I only have 22 days to raise my goal of $4,500 which is the bare minimum of what I really need to record properly. Currently I have around $1,100. And I am truly thankful for those of you who have already supported me!

If you are interested in supporting my new project check out my Kickstarter page (link below) and the pre-order options that are listed. Even 5 bucks will help make a difference. Or if you don’t can’t afford to spend money even just spreading the word online and word of mouth would be incredibly helpful too. Thanks for reading and thanks for your support!

New Band Project Announced!

Hey everyone! I’m happy to announce that my new “one-man band” project will be called SPELLS.

It will be quite a departure from anything I’ve done in the past. And to not allow any preconceived notions on what the “sound” will be like, I’ll let the music do the talking.

As you may know, I’m currently writing and demoing. I will be recording the debut EP in the Winter and hope to release it early next year.

I will soon have an official website up and running. But for now follow my blog and SPELLS on spellsofficial.tumblr.com, twitter.com/spells_official, and Facebook.

Everything is in the baby stages but is coming together quite quickly, can’t wait to get everything rolling! Exciting times, thanks for reading and for your support!

Writing Pt. 3 - The Bare Minimum

I can’t express how ecstatic I am about the new material! The way I’m going about writing and recording is completely different than I’m used to. I usually write a song on guitar or piano and bring it to the band members to help me complete it. This time around I only have myself and my good friend and producer Niles helping as well. As I “finish” songs to a point where they are ready to demo. I am playing each song at its most bare form. Whole notes, chords, and on a piano/pad. This is so we can hear the song as just chords and melody and no pre-conceived notions of how the rhythm in the song should be or a particular riff should be. With this, we can listen back and build around it. Adding only what is NEEDED in the song. Its definitely a challenge at first to be writing this way. But its been stretching my creativity more than ever. Not to mention tons of notes of ideas more than ever!

I get to step back and hear if the songs melodies and chord progressions are great enough to hold on their own without any embellishments of other instruments. I’m extremely blessed to have Niles on board. He likes to shake things up and that’s exactly what I’m all about with this new project!

Hoping to announce the band name soon. Waiting on a few things! Hold tight!

Cheers!

Writing Pt.-2: Tis’ the Season

Yes, Fall has finally graced us with its presence here in Nashville. And its cool weather, cloudy skies, and brown leaves have brought with it some inspiration. For whatever reason, Fall and Winter are my writing seasons. I feel like I get my best writing done during these times.

At the moment I’m undergoing quite the challenge and balancing two different projects or what I like to call two different “persona’s” of my music at once. As I’ve mentioned before the first persona is the band project and the second persona is the solo/acoustic project. And both are planned to be released next year. I’ll be announcing the band name soon…once I’ve made my final decision on the name! :)

Things are coming together quite well! So far, I have well over 80-100 songs/ideas all at various stages in their lives. For instance, there was one song or shall I say “riff” that I’ve had for over 4 1/2 years and yesterday was the day it finally became a full song. Some songs are late bloomers and it just takes some time and a fresh perspective to get it right. So I had my friend Brian McSweeney come over and help bring some fresh ideas to the song and I think we really made something great. I can’t wait to share the song with you. It will be called “Arella (Waiting On Your Call).” As I get further in the writing and recording process I’ll share more about what the songs are about. But for now you’ll just have to keep following and waiting patiently :)

With the way things are moving I’m hoping to start doing some full on demos and pre-production very soon as I continue to write. My hope is to be recording by Winter and release music early next year. We’ll see how it pans out! Thanks for reading, cheers!
